A No Brainer
By DAVID M. FRIEND
A Harvard/Harris poll from this past August found that 60 percent of Gen Z Americans supported Hamas over Israel.
But if those misinformed kids who increasingly think Israel is the worst thing in the world, if they would just use their intelligence (and I don’t mean artificial), they would be lauding Israel instead of condemning it.
Put aside the openness of Israeli society where women’s rights and gay rights are protected. Put aside the exceedingly robust (sometimes too robust) political discourse in Israel. What these youngins should be lovin’, are the incredible opportunities in Israel where high-tech and innovation are the DNA of the nation.
Let’s look at AI, artificial intelligence, which is allegedly on the cusp of changing our entire world.
According to a recent report from Startup Nation Central, Israel’s AI startup activity is two to four times greater than what’s going on in the United States or in Europe.
The 2024 Stanford AI Index, ranked Israel first in the world in terms of AI talent.
Nvidia, the AI darling of the stock market, has more than 4,000 employees in Israel and according to Forbes Magazine, Israel has 400 multinational corporations that have established research and development operations there.
Getting back to Nvidia, in 2020 it shelled out almost $7 billion bucks to acquire an Israeli networking company. Nvidia already has a huge R&D center in the north of Israel, and this past summer, it announced plans for another big new campus. When it’s done, Nvidia is projected to be Israel’s largest private-sector employer.
So what I’m trying to get at here is this; those feckless youngsters, now on both sides of the political spectrum, who view Israel as a cancer, as the root of all evil in the world, have their heads so far up their asses they’re peering out through their navels. (If feckless and heads up their asses are redundant, please forgive me).
Allow me to digress for a moment…
I must add in to this mix of stupid Israel haters is that idealogical pipsqueak, Zohran Mamdani, the mayor-elect of New York City. He wants to disengage NYC from Israel’s high-tech prowess in closing down the Technion-Cornell campus on Roosevelt Island. In what way will that be of benefit to New Yorkers? It what way will that create more jobs? In what way will that help New Yorkers acquire the skills they need to thrive in the tech-o-sphere? It what way will that help keep New York at the forefront of technology and innovation? It won’t. His deep hatred for Israel is retarding his responsibility to the citizens of the city.
Now, back to Israel…
In addition to the incredible tech opportunities, young people should be sprinting to live in Tel Aviv. A quarter of that city’s population is between 20 and 34 years old. Its cafes are filled with them, if they’re not lounging on the expansive Mediterranean beach.
You know who gets it? More and more young Jewish Americans.
Whether it’s due to rising campus antisemitism or to a realization that Israel is the place to be, more 20-25 year olds are emigrating to Israel. According to Nefesh B’Nefesh, that organization Mamdani says violates international law, Aliyah amongst that young demographic jumped 24% from 2023-2024.
If those useful idiot young adults who mask their faces and wave Hamas flags would use their brains instead of burying themselves in their sordid TikTok feeds, they would know what’s going on in Israel is the future.
Should we feel sorry for them? Yes and no. Yes, because they are so stupid and misguided. No, because they have surrendered their souls and their futures to the haters; the Mamdanis, the Tlaibs and the AOC’s.
They are being led down a path to nowhere.
And speaking of high-tech…
Listen to Alex Karp, the CEO of Palantir. That’s the very successful company that builds data analytics software platforms that help governments and corporations analyze massive data to make better, faster decisions. Click the link and listen to what he said this past week about the Democrat Party, progressives and socialism.
Then, compare what Karp said with an op-ed column this past week in the Wall Street Journal penned by Jennifer Bayer Michaels, a lifelong Democrat operative.
Both feel “politically homeless” for different reasons. Bayer Michaels because of how the party “legitimized extremism” after October 7th.
She is distraught that her party’s leaders haven’t said, loudly and clearly that “Jewish lives matter” and says she “didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.”
Karp is clear about his disdain for the Democrats and the hijacking of progressivism, turning it into “a complete farce,” and “bullshit.”
Their criticisms are harsh indictments of the Democrat Party’s leadership that thought the radical leftists under their tent were just visitors.
It is now obvious those fanatics are ingrained in the party’s warp and weft.
All those Democrats who still believe in capitalism, not in socialism, in meritocracy, not in handouts, who believe Israel is not a cancer on the world, who still believe in the inherent decency of the United States, must retake their party or the party will be further taken from them.
The problem is, the barbarians are well beyond the gate and it just may be too late to keep them out.

I agree with your excellent as always well written column. These kids are feckless with their head buried in their phones even as they walk down the street not alone even. Maybe it is too late. I hope not.
To quote Ron White, (comedian). "You can't fix stupid".
